Under The Radar: Apes Of Genius
Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday - printed 19 April 2020
Apes Of Genius is the public persona of Edinburgh musician Olly Farrell, whose alter ego as a sync composer includes writing a theme tune for STV Weather and the music which accompanied the Commonwealth Games baton relay. Last year saw the release of his Olly Bible LP, a wonderfully diverse collection of tracks which each evoke a different visual scene in the imagination of the listener. In fact, it might best be described as a soundtrack for a film yet to be made.
At the start of 2020 Farrell undertook to bring out a new single every month, but has also decided to release several songs which he describes as an extension to his album. These include the track That’s It Sun, which is a fund-raiser for mental health charity, CALM.
Arguably one of Scotland’s most original artists, he will be hosting an online listening session to talk through the songs and is busy working on more musical to be released in the coming weeks. For details visit: https://theapesofgeni.us
