Showcase events are back in force around the world, with even more than before the pandemic. Our panel explores what they offer, how artists can increase their chance of getting booked and how they and industry professionals can get the most of out of taking part.
Amelia Stokes from the band Midnight Ambulance will join Rosie Watson (Artist Manager / Resonate), Mobo Agoro (Pitch Scotland) and moderator Olaf Furniss (Wide Events / Wide Days). They will outline their respective selection criteria, as well as providing insights into international conventions including ESNS, Reeperbahn Festival, SXSW and WOMEX.
The panel will be followed by self-indulgent DJ sets (guests TBC) and an opportunity to socialise with the speakers and other attendees.

Ticket proceeds from the forthcoming event will be donated to the British Association For Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM) and Attitude Is Everything. The former provides an extensive range of health services for musicians and the latter aims to improve access to live music for deaf and disabled artists, industry professionals and audiences.

MEET THE SPEAKERS
Amelia Stokes
Artist, Midnight Ambulance
Amelia is the singer and drummer of Midnight Ambulance — a dark, alternative rock duo from Scotland. Midnight ambulance formed in 2020 and in 2022 were shortlisted for BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year. They released their debut EP ‘Smoke and Sweets’ in December 2022 which was featured on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland and in the iTunes Top50 album charts. The EP was released on limited edition vinyl (Blackhall Records) alongside a sold out headline and launch show at Sneaky Pete’s and The Caves (Edinburgh). "Haunting yet primal” (Backseat Mafia), they have performed across the UK and internationally, supporting artists such as The Pigeon Detectives, Fatherson & Texas. In 2023, they performed their debut international showcase at Future Echoes Festival (Sweden), Wide Days (Scottish Showcase) and Focus Wales (Welsh Showcase).
Mobo Agoro

Working at the intersection of music & culture, Mobo’s work has been extremely varied. With a hands-on approach to artist development Mobo has created multiple initiatives from UP2STNDRD, BTS cic (BeTheStandard) and Forij Management, to create avenues of support for early- career music artist.
More recently Mobo was appointed as the Booker & Festival Co-ordinator for Pitch Scotland. Being a Y2 PRSF Power Up participant, Mobo is an agent of change, making strategic interventions to allow for a more equitable Music Industry in Scotland.

Olaf Furniss is a journalist and founder of Wide Events, an organisation which hosts music business seminars and Scotland's music industry convention and showcase Wide Days. He reports for a wide variety of media including the BBC, The Scotsman, MusikWoche and IQ, and has written for Billboard, Music Week, Audience and Fono Forum.
Olaf has worked as a consultant for music industry conferences including Sonic Visions, by:Larm, Reeperbahn Festival, GoNorth, Berlin Music Week and Canadian Music Week, organising and/or moderating over 200 panels in the past five years. His interest in music tourism formed the basis of a Masters in Music: Innovation & Entrepreneurship and he has given guest lectures at universities in the UK, Norway and Germany.
